An inquiry into how popular images might effect our perceptions of things.

Write an argument supporting or refuting the statement below.

The comic book heroines shown above are drawn in such a way, with their revealing costumes and unrealistic proportions, that they become nothing more than images of adolescent sexual fantasies. By portraying women in this way it helps to form the idea that a woman is merely an object whose value lies in her ability to attract and please men. These images help to form the ideas of both young male and female readers towards women and contribute to the view that women are inferior to men and therefore deserve a seondary status in society.

Make sure your argument is organized and is supported by a logical stream of thought. In your opening paragraph outline your position, in the second one support your position, and in the third convince us why you are right! Find an image from the internet to use as visual evidence in support of your argument.

These comic books created so that people are able to read them and have fun reading them so I feel that these views of women are inferior to men is ridiculous. Women deserve the right to have the same status when compared to men. Portraying women this way only encourages men to think that the woman is just an object who is only useful at pleasing men.

Reading these comic books does not mean that the teens or adolescences will think of women that why because everything in the comic books is so unrealistic. I feel that if these teens and adolescence are old enough to read these types of comic books they should be mature enough to differentiate between unrealistic drawings and real life. They should be able to tell that no women will come close to looking like the heroines in comic books because of the unrealistic proportions and revealing costumes. For the female readers, they should be able to tell that they will never be able to look anything like the heroines in the comic books but this not mean that these female readers will not try anything to look like the heroines in the books just to attract or please men.

Female readers should not try to look like the heroines in the book because they are never going to look like them. If these female readers try to look as skinny as the heroines, they might become anorexic which is dangerous and may cost them their lives. Teens and adolescence should be mature enough to differentiate between the real world and the unrealistic world.
